Updated Landing Page
An updated landing page is now available at www.residentsurgicallog.com
Updated Login Credentials
The login screen has been updated to improve login security.
Residents and RSL Administrators must use their username to login to the mobile app and web version.
Note: Your username may not be your email address.
To confirm your username, use the Forgot Username functionality on the login screen or contact your Program’s RSL Administrator.
RSL Administrators Functionality
Use Email for User Name
Email address can now be used as the user name for new resident profiles.
It is strongly recommended that all new resident profiles be created with the email address as the user name.
- updates to existing user names is not required nor recommended to avoid confusion.
"Procedure Log" and "Off Service Anesthesia" Enhancements
Changes are intended to reduce PHI recorded in the RSL.
Procedure Date: The procedure date will automatically be saved as the first day of the month in which the procedure was performed. Example: You enter the procedure date as 2/20/2023. Upon saving the activity, the procedure date
will be saved as 2/01/2023.
Patient First and Last Name fields have been eliminated. Use the MRN as reference between the RSL and hospital medical records.
Patient Date of Birth has been replaced by Patient Age drop down menu.
For cases entered prior to this release, patient age has been automatically calculated using the procedure date and DOB
"Procedure Log" Anesthesia Enhancements
Anesthesia is now recorded in a separate drop-down (instead of using the Procedures drop down).
If your role includes Anesthesiologist, you will select “General/Deep” or
“Moderate Sedation” from the new Anesthesia drop-down menu.
If your role did not include Anesthesiologist (i.e. Primary Surgeon or First Assistant to the Attending), select “N/A – Anesthesia administer by another provider” from the new Anesthesia drop-down menu.
If your role was Anesthesiologist only (you did not perform a surgical procedure):
select “General/Deep” or “Moderate Sedation” from the new Anesthesia drop-down menu and
select “Surgical procedure performed by other provider” from the Procedure drop-down menu.
Note: When viewing case summaries entered prior to this release via Report 109 or View Activities, the anesthesia administered will appear under both the Anesthesia field and the Procedure field, but will only count as a single anesthetic experience.
"Procedure Log" Procedure Drop Down Enhancements
"Other" Procedure: If the appropriate CPT/CDT code is not available in the Procedures drop-down menu, residents can now select “Other” from the Procedures drop-down menu to manually record the procedure code and procedure description.
CAUTION: Procedures entered as “Other” will not be contemplated on any reports. Search for existing codes before entering a procedure as “Other”. Email rsl@omsnic.com to request a code addition if you use “Other” to record a frequently performed procedure.
New Procedure codes added to the Procedures drop-down menu
D7950 - Osseous, osteoperiosteal, or cartilage graft of the mandible or maxilla-autogenous or nonautogenous, by report
D7995 - Synthetic graft-mandible or facial bones, by report includes allogenic material

- Report 113b – CODA Residency Category Exceptions Worksheet: Summarizes procedure codes categorized by CODA in multiple major and/or subcategories. This report must be run in conjunction with Report 113A to ensure accurate categorical totals.
Other Enhancements
The Self-Assessment metrics of Personal Competence and Personal Confidence have been removed due to limited use.
Note: As is customary with all software tools, routine maintenance and product enhancements are necessary to support appropriate security protocols and enhanced functionality for end users. All changes to the RSL contemplate security best practices and are reviewed by the OMSNIC RSL Committee, comprised of representatives from AAOMS, Program Directors, faculty members, and residents. Any questions or concerns regarding changes to the RSL should be directed to RSL@omsnic.com.
